Village Curry House, Glasgow

You might realise that this is the first curry house that I have reviewed on this site  and credit must go to one of my Asian bosses who recommended it as a place he frequents for authentic North Indian food besides his own home.

Bite me  if I am wrong but if the Asian dude says its good and eats there it probably is.

This place is almost hard to find among  the one way road systems in the Tradeston area, opposite the SAAB garage.

Please do not be fooled by the simple looking exterior almost reminiscence of your usual take away shop with a couple of sitting area.

Once you enter, you will see a totally different interior to its exterior and surrounding estate.

Having gone through a major renovation and expansion, the restaurant now looks refined without being OTT

Growing up in Singapore, I am used to eating the South Indian curries.

In my opinion,  I associate South Indian curry as being spicer, uses coconut milk and has a thinner sauce. Of course, one of the greatest things of immigration is the cross over of cultures, the merger of best ingredients/techniques and sometimes the blurring of the true identity of a curry.

We began with a platter for 2 and which came fresh and piping hot from the fryer. The usual  delicious chicken pakoras, vegetable pakoras, chicken chaat and a palm-sized mince lamb samosa. An accompaniment of 3 sauces (cilantro & mint chutney, chilli sauce and dahl) took the dish to another level.

The mains we had included a Tandoori Salmon fish Tikka, Lamb Lahore Kirahi, Chicken Ginger Handi, fried rice and garlic naan

Generally, the food is great and I am definitely coming back at some point judging by the number of locals who were dining here on a weekday evening.

That says alot about the food.

For dessets, they have got a wide variety of ice cream flavours from Equi’s

One last thing, don’t forget to have the mango lassi!!
