If you do live in the fashionable West end of Glasgow, the name Hotel du Vin at 1 Devonshire Gardens should ring a bell. This luxury boutique hotel is also well known for its Bistro which garnered 3AA Rosettes in 2008.
Recently, they have introduced this awesome Sunday brunch menu consisting of a 3 course menu and…. a French market table.
I did not know what that means initially but after reading ” An exciting choice of fresh seafood, crustacea, charcuterie, pates, rilletes and a selection of salads, vegetables and freshly baked artisan breads. “, one could not help but salivate.
The best thing is, you can have as many servings as you want.
The soup of the day was a pleasant root vegetable soup. Sweet flavours of what I think consisted of carrots and parsnips was a warm prelude to the exciting French table
I had a glimpse of the amazing set up as I walk into the dining hall and could not wait to lay hands on what was on offer. One of the chefs was one hand to assist with plating and explaining each item. The centre piece had to be the crustacean platter: A beautiful selection of king prawns, cervette prawns, oysters and half dressed crabs. Salmon, hot and cold smoked were on offer as well. Cured hams, marinated vegetables, salads and bread. The list could go on and on forever and I did not even realise that there was not any cheese. Does it matter? well.. not particular for me as there was already so much to try even before your main course.
Here’s what’s on offer..
Fear not if you are still hungry, because by the time you finish the french table, you can either go for another serving of the table or proceed on with main course.
I was almost ready to surrender haha.
Here’s my plaice done with a Mieuniere sauce. Very rustic and very healthy witha portion of greens and boiled vegetables.
If you don’t fancy fish, there’s always the roast chicken lunch or the bistro burger to try out.
Both mains were not too bad but having had such a nice intermediate course, the chicken and fish had to play second fiddle really…
.
.
To finish off.. a sweet dessert of profiteroles and apple crumble.
There’s really none like Hotel du vin that does such a value for money brunch deal. Its not just about quantity but also the quality of the food, the ambience and the service that makes this such a highly recommended lunch if you want a nice treat at an amazing price.
I understand they have no immediate plans to discontinue the brunch menu so .. start making your bookings before you miss out!!.
