It was a showdown like no other. One between foodies who can’t wait to show whose got the best palettes in town. The venue….. The Living Room.
This contemporary restaurant and piano bar is located right smacked in the business district of Glasgow. Its top end interior is primely suited to target the after office workers and anyone who fancies a nice evening meal set amongst a relaxing ambiance.
This challenge was not just aim at a bit of fun but also to introduce the new Living Room menu. We were all blind folded and individual tasting portions were given out for us to guess some of the ingredients that were used. Food aside, this reminded me of exams with properly structured questions.
I found it difficult guessing what was used even though I was not blind folded.
My favorite of the night was the pork and chorizo burger with paprika aioli in a Brochie bun. Most of the bloggers agreed that this was one of the better burgers around town. Smokey flavors, tender pork, sweet brioche bun. To the right is a butternut squash, dolcelatte, walnut and honey tart. And at the living room, there’s the option of not one but three butters to go with you bread.
These are some of the dishes that were brought out for us to try. From right to left, 1) Black Forest smoked cured ham and fig, with a goats cheese mousse and raspberry and beetroot vinaigrette, 2) Homemade Glamorgan sausages with a sage and onion soubise, braised lentils and mash, 3) Pan-fried sea bass and orange scented broccoli with lentil casserole 4) Venison ‘shepherd’s pie’ with chestnut savoy cabbage 5) Morrocan spiced lamb with apricots, dates and almonds served with giant cous cous 6) Duck breast with szechuan pepper and plum chutney, chilli fried bok choi and sweet potato fondant.
My favourite…… amongst these…. Morrocan spiced lamb with GIANT cous cous . How fun..
The vegetarian sausage tasted really good actually almost like a veggie pakora but less oily, starchy and with more flavour layers.
For desserts: shots of cocktails, The cheese board, coconut & passion fruit creme brulee and Basil Grande Eton Mess.
I think the dessert still needs some refinement but the taste was overall there.
Congrats to The Glasgow Food blog and Pie in Soup on winning the challenge.
